During this lecture, two use cases, which will be referred back to frequently throughout the seminar, will be introduced by the projects´ team members. The lecture provides an overview of the projects (subject area, organisation, data and expected infrastructure problems), but also allows time for discussion of infrastructural needs, as well as possible problems and corresponding solutions.
Two research topics will be presented, including the special research topic „German in Austria (DiÖ)“ (Vienna, Graz and Salzburg Universities, Austrian Academy of Sciences), a special field of research which closely relates to the language sciences, but whose structural and pluralistic method complexity also creates an interesting side project for researching aspects of the digital humanities. Many (e-)infrastructural questions raised by this topic have not been answered, as the project only started at the beginning of 2016. The challenges this case presents are to describe diverse theoretical approaches interoperably, but also, from a more practical perspective, to facilitate collaboration between various side projects, which are deeply entwined with one another.
Secondly, the project „Data Citation Pilots for Climate Data and Implementation in the CCCA Data Centre" will be closely examined. In this use case from the field of climate research, existing research data from the project ÖKS 15 (Austrian Climate Scenarios until 2100) will be presented. Due to its best practice implementation of web-based data publication, this project provides a prime example of how consequent and consistent data citation with clearly defined specifications and descriptions for metadata can be achieved.
