Support, service, helpdesk, service pages.

In the first part of this lecture, Harald Eberle will introduce the project „volare“ and explain from the customers perspective how various stakeholders work together to prepare, plan and implement a complex project. These stakeholders include IT, library personnel, government experts and cooperative partners from other institutions. This lecture will showcase prime examples of how services and support can be made available to a wide range of project beneficiaries and users. The division of labour between hosting services and Vorarlberger Libraries, as well as possibilities for future cooperation, will also be explained.

In the second part of this lecture, Gertraud Novotny will explain the daily operations of an institutional repository for publications from the perspective of the operator. The repository ePubWU was created in 2002 at the library of the Vienna University of Economics and Commerce, and was relaunched in 2010. Key topics regarding content and organisation, relevant to the repository and its operations, will include: defining the types of publications which can be accepted, the acquisition process, legal parameters, customer-specific inquiries, and metadata import. Based on a model of pre-ingest-workflows, the import of metadata can occur either as a manual acquisition via user-interfaces or as an import via the research information system, or FIDES, of the Vienna University of Economics and Commerce. This lecture will look at past experiences in an effort to open up discussion about possible new developments and challenges for the future.
