The concept of life-cycle management of digital objects will be introduced and discussed within this lecture.
The implementation of life-cycle management for data, the creation of algorithms for generating data, a controlled applied terminology and formatting (encoding schematics) are all essential in the field of natural sciences, and in the provision of natural sciences data via interoperable services. Structured metadata, versioning, identifier management, standardised formatting and data citation are also key.
This lecture will present the foundations and selected objectives of standardisation initiatives, legislative provisions, as well as real-world examples.
