This lecture introduces the topic of how research data is to be handled from a legal perspective. Key legal issues include copyrighting and data protection. A workshop within the lecture should yield answers to the following questions: :
How should research data be perceived from a legal standpoint? Which protection laws apply? How should research data which does not fall under a particular protection law be handled?
Can research data be regarded as property? If so, who owns it? Who can create and enforce regulations regarding research data not protected by law?
